Product selection & application
How to Choose Composite Strap Width and System Strength
Width is a starting point for selecting composite strap, not a complete specification. Compare the product code, yarn construction, linear breaking strength, tested system strength, buckle and coil length together.
Begin with the cargo and the securing arrangement
Before selecting a size, describe the load: dimensions, mass, packaging material, contact edges and transport mode. Identify the restraint arrangement and the required performance under the relevant operating conditions. Cargo mass alone cannot determine a strap width or the number of straps.
Flat yarn and twisted yarn: identify the actual product
Our range includes composite strapping made with flat polyester yarn and with twisted polyester yarn. The two photographs below document the samples supplied for this range. Use the product code and technical specification to confirm the construction; colour and visible width do not establish a strength rating.

Read linear and system strength as different measurements
Our product table lists minimum linear breaking strength and minimum system breaking strength separately. A linear test examines a length of strap. A system test examines an assembly, including its buckle and joint arrangement. The values must be read with their test setup and units. Do not double, halve or otherwise convert between them without the relevant test method.
The system-test videos supplied for this range show a strap-and-buckle assembly in a test machine. For a purchase decision, ask for the matching strap model, buckle model, sample identification and test record. A video is useful context, but an isolated screen reading is not a batch guarantee or a working-load rating.
Use the specification table to shortlist models
For example, our current table lists more than one 19 mm flat-yarn option and more than one 25 mm construction. This is why a request for “19 mm strap” or “25 mm strap” alone leaves important details open. Start with the code, then confirm its strength values, coil length and packing on the composite cord strapping product page.
Match the buckle and tensioner
The following strap-and-buckle pairings have been confirmed for our range. Confirm the full specification, finish and test record when ordering.
| Strap width | Composite strap model | Wire buckle model |
|---|---|---|
| 13 mm | CS40 | WB13 |
| 16 mm | CS50 | WB16 |
| 19 mm | CS60 | WB19 |
| 25 mm | CS85 | WB25 |
| 32 mm | CS105 | WB32 |
Check that the tensioner supports the strap’s width, thickness and construction. A wider strap does not automatically fit an existing tool, and changing the buckle can change assembly performance.
Coil length, core size, coils per box and the dispenser arrangement also affect daily handling. Include these in the quotation rather than leaving them until dispatch.
Send this selection checklist
- Preferred model, or required width and construction.
- Required performance and the test method or specification behind it.
- Cargo photographs, dimensions, mass and transport conditions.
- Existing buckle and tool models, if any.
- Coil length, core size, packing, order quantity and destination.
We will use these details to discuss a matched strap, buckle and tool combination. Final restraint design and allowable use must be confirmed for the application.
